A
word (or two) from Melinda
I
started writing romance after attending a Seattle chapter
conference in 1991 and joining a critique group. Even then
I didn't really write romance. My critique friends said that
I wrote in a "literary text book" style. Afterall, I'd been
a
Spanish literature major and then wrote education
research, texts and curriculum guides.
I've
always been a sucker for a well-organized conference
--RWA's was, and I found that romance was not at all what
I thought. It had changed so much from the first romances
I'd read way back in the early 70s. My favorites of those
early books were the Angelique historical romance series.
They were a great adventure, and I like them still. My
favorite author is Barbara Michaels/Elizabeth Peters
--wonderful romantic suspense. And I love the modern
contemporary humor of Susan Elizabeth Phillips and others.
